Packet8 reviews 24.10.2006 Mark xAfter throughly reviewing many VOIP companies I finally decide to select Packet 8 because of the availability of a local number in area code where I live. I signed up via their Internet website. It took a while for the adapter to ship but finally arrived a little late, but hey, I had my phone adapter. After completing the installation instructions I received a confirmation email which should have indicated my assigned phone number but instead listed a "N/A". Since I installed on a weekend I figured it was just for that reason and when I called customer service on Monday they would issue me a phone number. Wrong! They indicated that there were no local numbers in the rate code I selected and I would not be able to attain service unless I picked another city (that would have made all those who placed calls to our house locally, would now be a long distance call). Telling them this was unacceptable I asked for a complete refund. They indicated that they do not refund shipping and handling. This was their fault completely for falsely advertising a service on the web site but in reality a way to cheat a person out of $12 dollars and some cents. I've asked to speak to a supervisor with promises of callbacks in a few days but almost four weeks later and two other customer service calls, no one has had the guts to phone me back. The sad part is, they still advertise, on the Internet, that phone numbers are still available under that same area code and rate code when there are none available (I verified this with their customer service two weeks later). All you will do is lose your shipping and handling. If they would have been honest up front I never would have signed up because of the lack of a local prefix. Do not trust this company. Service and quality of the phone calls may be great (never had a phone number to try) but you are rolling the dice before hand when you enroll on the Internet. I repeat, do not trust Packet 8. |
